9 things you should not believe while buying a phone online

Don't trust those reviews on e-commerce websites fully. They are also influenced by some brands who either try to hide negative reviews or show paid reviews.

With flash sales and lucrative discounts, more and more people are buying phones online. There remains a section of users who still remain kind of unsure about ordering phones online and often tend to decide about their next smartphone purchase online and reach the nearest retail store armed with all knowledge about specs and price. However, with tech websites and social media playing a huge role in influencing a buyer’s decision, it is very important for people to not believe everything that they see online to decide which phone to buy. Here are 9 things to know.
Verdicts of ‘popular’ influencers on social media websites (and apps) like Instagram, Twitter and Facebook are mostly paid. Instagram happens to be one of the favourites social media websites for marketing team of smartphone brands. Brands mostly pay money to so-called influencers to create hype around a new phone. So, it is highly recommended not to blindly believe Instagram posts to know about a phone’s camera performance or other features. So, don’t fall for social media posts by celebrities. They too are mostly paid to advertise a phone. Remember your favorite actor, cricketer as well as other celebs are paid to post those photos of new phones, similar to TV ads. In reality, they wouldn’t possibly be using the phone they ‘want’ you to buy.

A brand new phone will always show top performance and battery results. However, the more you use the phone, these benchmark scores fall. Also, some brands have even fudge benchmark scores. So, don’t focus on benchmark test results much.
Just because some mobile company is among the top 5 smartphone brands in India in terms of shipments doesn’t mean that all its products are best buys. Remember, you are not buying the company but a certain handset from the company. Apple never makes it to the top 5 brands in India, this doesn’t mean that iPhones are not worth buying.

DxOMark rating is another marketing jargon used by brands to make buyers believe that their phone has the best camera. While in test labs it could, the results tend to vary greatly in real life.

Remember you buy a phone as an entire product for all its features. You do not buy different phones for better battery, performance or camera respectively. So, don’t buy a phone just because the device comes with a unique camera feature or simply has better battery life or any one particular USP.
No brands share the actual sales figure of flash sales. It might be just 10 units or 1000 units or even 10,000 units. So, don’t think that it if a phone is selling in flash sales that means it's in huge demand.
Like other features, brands go all the way in promoting durability of their smartphones. Don’t fall for this. Remember that all glass phones break and if there is no IP68 water resistance rating then it is not safe to be used wet. Simple.
For someone who is heading a smartphone brand in the country, it is obvious to boast about every minute detail of a newly-launched phone. So, don’t let tall claims by marketing heads or other executive of a brand influence your buying decision.
